Here is the procedure to find out if a friend or family member of yours was detained by ICE or remains in custody:
Step 1
- Go to the ICE website: https://locator.ice.gov/
- Choose the language of your preference.
- Have all of the individual’s information at hand.
Keep in mind that this will only help you find a person detained by ICE, a person in custody or released from ICE in the last 60 days.
Step 2
The system performs the search in two ways:
- By the Alien Number or the so-called A-Number: it is a 9-digit identification number that is assigned only to people who are in the process of obtaining immigration benefits or who are in a process of law enforcement (not worry if you don’t have it).
- Detainee’s personal data: the name and surname of the person searching must correspond exactly to the name and surname that you entered (for example, if you write José Guzmán, you will not find Josué Guzmán or José Guzmán González). It will also be necessary to select the country of birth of the detainee.
